Vaccination Services

The Toronto Humane Society offers public vaccination services for healthy dogs and cats and puppies and kittens that are at least 6 weeks of age. Vaccination services are available up to six days a week, including Saturdays!

We like to remind all pet owners of the importance of annual rabies vaccinations. Not only does it keep your pet safe... it's the law...

How the Vaccination Service OperatesHow the Vaccination Service Operates

Our high-volume, low-cost vaccination service provides basic vaccination service to healthy pets of all ages, and is not restricted to Toronto residents. All appointments are 15 minutes in length, which includes a brief physical examination (to ensure your pet is healthy enough to receive vaccines), any core vaccinations they may require, and a complimentary deworming for puppies and kittens (for intestinal parasites).

If your pet has any medical concerns, please seek service with your veterinarian promptly as we are limited to providing vaccines, microchipping, heartworm testing (and preventatives), along with basic deworming only.

If you are the proud new owner of a puppy or kitten (congratulations!), we recommend however you seek your initial vaccination services with your local veterinarian who can provide a more extensive initial exam along with training/feeding/care tips, and the ability to perform standard fecal analysis to test for common intestinal parasites.

For more information on the importance of establishing a relationship with a local full service veterinarian for your pet, please click here.

If you intend to travel with your pet please note that we do not complete documentation necessary for travel, nor health examinations to ensure your pet is healthy enough to travel.

How to Book an AppointmentHow to Book an Appointment

Prior to booking an appointment please confirm that your pet qualifies for surgery – click here.

Phone: 416-392-2273 and press #2 to reach the spay/neuter services.

Or, fill out the online appointment request form.

For multiple vaccination appointments a 50% deposit must be made at the time of booking to be applied on the day of the appointment. Please be aware that we will not be able to provide refunds on one's deposit unless your pet is medically declined by our veterinarians, or 2 weeks’ notice has been provided. This deposit can be made via credit card over the phone (Visa or Mastercard), or if needed we can provide a 48 hour hold on your appointment to come in to the shelter to pay with Cash or Debit. The Vaccination Clinic does not accept payment in cheques.

All appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled with a minimum of 48 hours in order to avoid a short notice cancellation fee of $25.00. Please note all no-show appointments will be required to pay the cancellation fee, and a full deposit before offered a new appointment.

If your animal is denied at the time of the appointment as they are too ill, or already up to date on vaccines, a $25.00 examination fee/ineligibility fee still applies.

**Please note: If you have scheduled your animal to receive their very first vaccination, a booster appointment will be required in 3-4 weeks. Please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian or request we book a second appointment in the necessary timeframe.

Due to our high volume service, vaccination appointments are only booked up to 1 month in advance. When requesting an appointment our service agents will offer you the first available appointment unless otherwise notified. In the event you would like something earlier we welcome you to call back frequently for cancellations, but please note we do not have the ability to keep a wait list for this service.

Heartworm TestingHeartworm Testing

As of April 15th we will again be offering canine heartworm testing and preventative medication.

Please call or complete an online appointment request form to book an appointment today!

Heartworm disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito which inserts heartworm larvae into your pet’s bloodstream. As the larvae develop into adult worms, they travel throughout the bloodstream concluding in the heart where they call home. Without annual testing and preventatives, this disease left untreated can be fatal. Due to Canada’s cold winter months, heartworm prevention is only recommended for 6 months, with testing beginning in the spring (to ensure they did not contract heartworm disease the previous summer season), and monthly prevention recommended for June until November during those warmer months when mosquitos are active.

For more information check out this informative brochure published by the American Heartworm Society – click here.

A small blood sample is collected and run in-house providing a quick positive or negative result. Once we can ensure your dog has tested negative, our veterinarians will be able to prescribe 6 months of topical prevention to be applied once monthly at home. This can be done along with vaccinations should your pet need them, or it can be done alone making the exam cost only $25.00 and the test $20.00 for a total of $45.00.

Please refer to our heartworm testing & preventative policies.

Every day, here at the Toronto Humane Society, we are reminded of the importance of microchipping your pet. It is a sad reality that many pets will accidently slip outdoors and will not be able to find their way home. In Toronto, in 2015, nearly 5,000 pets entered the shelter system as a stray and only about 1,200 had the identification needed to get them home.

A microchip is NOT a tracking (GPS) device, but it does store information on it that is vital in returning found pets home to their owners, and are considered a permanent proof of ownership. Microchips carry a unique number that is associated to the owners account with contact information. This way, if your pet happens to be one of the many who slip through the front door and is found, vet clinics and animal shelters (or anyone who has a microchip scanner) can contact the microchip company, who will then notify the owners of the found pet. Microchip scanners only display the unique account number not address, name or phone number of the owners. This protects the privacy of the owner of the missing pet.

We are proud to offer microchipping service in both our vaccination and spay/neuter services for the low cost of $20! This can be done along with vaccinations should your pet need them, or it can be done alone making the exam cost only $25.00 and the chip implant & registration $20.00 for a total of $45.00.
